This name 'Japanese' refers to the production of the Tea, which strictly adheres to Japanese methods. During its processing, factory workers steam the leaves instead of pan-firing them. Not only does this prevent oxidation, but also creates a distinctly “Japanese” flavour described as fresh and vegetal.
