Minor edge wear at top of dust jacket and some of the tops of pages have been roughly cut when printed so 3/4 pages have a small fold at the corner. Otherwise the book itself is in good condition. Published in German under the title Der geschenkte Gaul. The English translation by David Anthony Palastanga (Ms Knef's husband and also an actor). 384 pages.
An extra-ordinary story. The first part is a masterly account of her experiences as a child during WWII in Berlin and how she started her actress's training. In trying to avoid the Russian soldiers she became a soldier, but was eventually captured by the Russians and then managed to escape, starving and covered with lice. The second part is about her career in films, in Hollywood and on stage, acting in Broadway plays such as Silk Stockings and Ninotchka. However it was not all plain sailing. In later life she discovered herself as a writer.
